Los Angeles, February 24, 2010 - The Best of Soul Train just got better. For the first time in history, Time Life announced today the pre-sale availability for The Best of Soul Train 9-DVD Box set, with more than 16 hours of pure love, peace, and souuul, specifically highlighting the '70s decade. Fresh off the heels of the highly rated VH1 documentary special, the DVD release marks the first-time availability of Soul Train, the longest running, syndicated series in television history. The Best of Soul Train features 130 classic performances.
The Best of Soul Train features the biggest names in R&B and soul, with classic performances from Soul Train's most acclaimed era, 1971-1979, showcasing celebrated artists such as Aretha Franklin, The Jackson 5, Stevie Wonder, Sly Stone, Gladys Knight, The Commodores, Patti LaBelle, Marvin Gaye, The O'Jays and many more.
Viewers will re-live the original dance styles and scene-stealing fashions from the heart of the '70s, as well as favorite moments from the Soul Train Dance Line to the beloved Soul Train Scramble Board. Also included, are on-air interviews with the artists, classic Soul Train dancers, and some vintage commercials for Ultra Sheen and Afro Sheen products.
This special collection features the best moments from several original Soul Train episodes, totaling 130 songs and performances, and contains more than three hours of bonus material including exclusive interviews with Don Cornelius, Smokey Robinson, Jody Watley and others.
Included in the 9-DVD set is a bonus DVD featuring highlights from the inaugural Soul Train Music Awards (1987), featuring memorable performances by Whitney Houston, Luther Vandross, Dionne Warwick, Stevie Wonder and many others.
If viewers didn't experience the magic the first time around, iconic moments that fans can look forward to include extraordinary footage and performances, such as:
