Welcome to Antiques & Moore!

This listing is for a gorgeous late 19th Century ladies hand mirror and brush set made of gilded Sterling Silver in a heavily chased REPOUSSE design made by Gorham. Although not an exact match, both these stunning pieces feature beautiful hand chased Repousse florals and scrolls in high relief covering the back of both pieces and both the sides of the handles. The design features a lovely cartouche bearing a fancy 3-letter monogram "P T T" In the center of the mirror's back. The frame of the brush is marked with the Gorham trademark stamp used from 1876-1900 and "Sterling, 402". We did not find the stamp on the hand mirror but we guarantee it also to be Sterling Silver.

Mirror measures 9 1/24" long with the mirror end measuring 5" long and 3 7/8" wide. Mirror measures 4 1/8" long and 2 7/8" wide. Brush measures 8 3/4" long and 2 3/4" wide. Combined weight is 4.8 ounces.

Condition: The gilded silver frames are in very good Estate condition with only a couple of issues on the hand mirror. The gilding is bright on the top of the mirror although it is worn on the handle and there are a couple of expected dents on the mirror's rounded top edge from normal wear. The beveled mirror has some faint cloudiness in the silver backing and fits tightly in the frame although there is a faint "rattle" inside the frame where some of the chalk or calking used as filler inside the hollow handle has broken loose. The gilding is also bright on the top of the brush also but there is wear on the handle. The natural bristles are clean and are secure in the backing.  As mentioned above, this is a married or combined set and although it initially appears to match, there are slight variations within the flowers and there is scrolling within the design on the mirror and not on the brush. We have tried to be as detailed about the condition as we can be but please view all photos as they are considered to be part of this description.
