Cloyes® Passenger Side Upper Timing Chain Tensioner (B1CF32). A timing chain tensioner ensures that the timing chain system is kept taut. Tensioners can use spring tension and/or hydraulic pressure to properly tension the system, depending on the OE design. Timing gears connect the crankshaft to the valvetrain. Gear timing must be precise in order for the valves to open and close at the correct times for optimum engine performance. However, worn gears can cause timing to be off and the engine to fail to start or run poorly.
