● THE STORY
The puzzle boxes we craft by hand have a very old story, which started back when Vlad the Impaler was the ruler of Transylvania. It is said that the ladies of those times kept their most valuable items in such boxes, except theirs were much larger. I carried on my family’s tradition and inherited the pleasure of woodworking from my great-grandfather Constantin. He was a talented carpenter, and a hardworking man. One day a beautiful young woman, Ecaterina, whom Constantin loved in secret, came to visit his workshop. She asked him to make her a wooden jewelry box with a secret compartment. Constantin crafted a beautiful puzzle jewelry box, which he gave to the girl, and in the hidden compartment of the box he slipped a note that said, “This is where you can keep your dreams safe.” And he signed it, “Your future boyfriend, Constantin, 23 January 1903” ... Ecaterina was my great-grandmother!
● HOW IT'S MADE
Everything is made from solid larch wood, using classic tools, and pouring a lot of soul into it, like Constantin used to do. The wooden secret boxes are carefully crafted in our workshop in small batches, and they are one of a kind in the world (you won’t find this product anywhere else). The box is 100% environmentally friendly, and its colour and scent come from our secret ingredient, a mix of natural oils and beeswax that we use to finish wood surfaces, which remain velvety to the touch.
Once you look at the box, you will discover a blend of half-shadow and light. The black and grey tones join hands with the light yellow. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and the box has a different colour for each of us.
When you touch the box, you might feel the olden days where it has its origins, or perhaps every movement of the craftsman who brushed and finished the wood. The surface of the box is not smooth, instead you will feel the grain of the wood, embossed as if carved by the invisible hand of time
● HOW IT WORKS
Simple and complicated at the same time, the box has two compartments (a main compartment and a secret one). To open the box, you need to spin it and say Abracadabra :) Once you lift the lid, you will discover the main compartment, and underneath this one there is a secret compartment (the box has a double bottom). The hidden compartment is very well concealed, and it is truly difficult to discover unless you know the secrets of the box.
The box is particularly charming because it is easy to open, but hard to reach the secret compartment. This shows young and old alike that appearances can be deceiving, and that something that appears simple may be complicated unless you know it well enough.
You can also close the box if you put the lid on and move it longitudinally, then shake it! Abracadabra :) ... the box is closed
