    Legend:

A machine translation of an excerpt from the original French description:

THE BOUDOIR OF MARIE ANTOINETTE; PALACE OF FONTAINEBLEAU.

Louis XVI, like the kings his predecessors, brought his contingent of restorations and constructions to the Palace of Fontainebleau; the queen's boudoir dates from this period.

This boudoir, fitted out by the architect Rousseau, forms an almost perfect square with two cut sides: the width is 5m75 over a depth of 5m45. A glass door between the cut sides, part of which can be seen on the left side of our board opens onto a bathroom entirely hung in white muslin embroidered on a pink background.

With the exception of the frames of the four doors painted in rosewood, this little room is entirely gilded. All the panels were executed on a green gold background, the frieze and common ornaments on a white gold background, the moldings, frames and cornices in shiny yellow gold,

The fireplace, 0"95 high, is of white marble; it is adorned with a clock with columns on a base and a garlanded dial, and two finely chiseled gilt bronze candelabra from the hands of GouthiƩres-le-Beau, as well as the bronze fire also gilded in front of which, on the attached board, is placed a large screen.

The mirror of the fireplace, the one between the two crosses, the one facing the fireplace and the door leading to the bathroom, each have a curved frame provided with two moldings decorated with burnished yellow gold, enclosing a flat bottom whose white gold is enhanced by two small bouquets linked together by a blue ribbon.

The four doors are crowned with bas-reliefs sculpted by Beauvais in 1780 and which represent: Urania and Calliope; Clio and Polymnia; Euterpe and Erato; Thalia and Melpomene. This last bas-relief can be seen in its entirety on our plate.
