I am a student of one of the Gracie family members who has a book out right now. I love what I learn in class, but have to admit that when I saw their book, I went back to my teacher and asked "what the heck is this? this isn't the way we do it in class."
I have to give Simco a lot of credit for being the first guy to show the way jiu-jitsu is taught in brasil. There are a lot of bad books and tapes out there of people holding back information. Simco isn't one of them and props to him for that.
I found the book to be suprisingly accurate, detailed and showed the counters to each move, the escapes, then the counter to that counter. No other book does this. The entire book chains together moves and that is what jiu-jitsu is all about.
I think you have to buy 4 of the other books at $20 each to get all the information that is in this book. It makes it a great value.
As one who has competed in brasil for years and taken medals home from the mundials and many state tournaments, I recommend this from one of the few people in america showing the real jiu-jitsu.
Other good books were "Passing the Guard" and Machado books, but one is only covering one part of jiu-jitsu, and the Machado books are great, but much smaller.
