Dried Silver Birch leaves (Betula
pendula) 2022
In unbleached teabags
Artisan teabags, hand harvested and packed with care and attention.
Easily recognised by its silver white
bark and black markings, the Silver Birch tree is a powerhouse of medicinal
properties. The leaves are picked in
spring and early summer, washed and dried carefully, and ground. Whilst this is not a flavourful tea, it is
best drunk for its healing ability. The
leaves are Vitamin C-rich, full of flavonoids, tannins and salicylate, the
latter known for its anti-inflammatory properties. Aspirin is a derivative of
salicylic acid - and is also known as acetylsalicylic acid. It has antiseptic and pain-relieving effects
and this tea should be drunk periodically when needed rather than taken in
large quantities for a long period.
The leaves are mildly diuretic
and are reputed to be good for urinary issues, blood sugar regulation, cystitis, and arthritic problems.
As with any new herbal tea,
drink a little to see if it agrees with you.
To use:
1.Add a teabag to your cup and
add boiling water.
2. Allow to infuse for 5-10
minutes
3. Add a small teaspoon of
honey/lemon to sweeten if preferred.
Enjoy!
