Created in the late 1910’s, this hand-painted tapestry is a reproduction of “Cleopatra on the Nile,”
a painting by renowned Austrian painter Hans Makart (1840–1884).
This tapestry is painted on a wool and cotton-blend canvas and signed
on the lower left corner by the artist (signature not legible) who copied Makart’s work.

The original oil vividly captures the historic moment when Cleopatra floats down the Nile on an
elaborate flotilla to impress  the Roman Emperor Julius Caesar who she will meet for the first time.
This massive wall hanging measures an impressive 10 feet x 6 feet.
Equally impressive is the condition of this work, which is over 100 years old.
Though the original paint and colors have faded a bit,  the main picture is still detailed and dramatic.
There are two tears in the fabric --
Closest to the Tapestry’s left corner is a small tear about an inch long, but is barely noticeable.
Even less noticeable is another tear less than half an inch in length on the top border near the right corner.
Take a look at the hi-res listing photos to see pictures of each of these tears.
Also please note that all along the tapestry’s Border there is what appears to be surface discoloration,
but this is in fact faded (orange) paint originally applied to the outer design pattern.

This Stunning Hand-Painted Tapestry is guaranteed to class up any room interior while at the same
time doubling as a wonderful art investment. Let us know if you have any questions.
