Poster Stamp

Mærkat-style poster stamp advertising Ballograf ballpoint pens issued c.1955. This stamp depicts three different models of the pen, with prices, and was probably used by the company on correspondance with resellers, since the message at the bottom translates to "Do you have them all in your store?". The Ballograf Company was started in Sweden in 1945, but at the time this stamp was issued the company was owned by the French company BIC. The company is now Swedish again.
    According to the company's website at ballograf.com:

    Ballograf was founded in 1945 by Eugen Spitzer, a jew of Austrian origin who fled to Sweden during World War II. At the beginning, production took place in a small garage. The company was called AB Fabeh.

    The company began to grow rapidly and moved to Mölndal under the name Ballografverken AB and with Victor Reich as CEO. Ballograf is a composition of "ballo" which means bullet and the word "graph" which means writing.

    In 1953, Ballograf launched a ballpoint pen with Swedish archive ink that led companies and authorities to use it. The success of the ballpoint pen was great and Ballograf began to develop into the leading pen manufacturer in the Nordic countries for ballpoint pens while exports to other countries began to increase.

    From 1953 to 2004, Ballograf was owned by the French company BIC.

    In 1960, Ballograf began producing the pen that is still the bestseller and today a real classic that has not changed. Many people know the Epoca pen in its special form as deskset that is often found at banks or hotel receptions.

    In 1992, the Rondo pen was made for the first time, which still is a very popular classic.

    Between 1960 and 2019, production in Västra Frölunda, outside Gothenburg, today all production in Filipstad.

    Ballograf is today in Swedish hands and the owners are Tommy Kvist and Jan Johansson. The company's CEO is Peter Orrgren.

    Today, Ballograf is the only pen manufacturer in the whole of the North and exports pencils to 49 countries (including Austria, Japan, USA, Switzerland and many more). The company produces over 5 million pens per year and has about 20 employees.
This stamp is Mærkat # 8970, produced by Becker's Papirindustri. This stamp is listed in Chr. Søndergaard’s ”Mærkater – Indr. Varemærke”, Vol. 2, on page 56.

After 35+ years I decided to retire from being an active Cinderella Stamp dealer. Most of my working inventory plus backup stock was sold at public auction. However, I have retained some material that I will be offering for sale. In addition, I have some "new" material that was mixed into lots I have bought for my own collections. I will be listing some of the material in my eBay store at fixed prices. I will also be offering some material at auction, either as single items or mixed lots. There will be many bargains available. There will be large and small lots, some containing similar material, some containing a random mixture, and some containing only one or a few items. The condition will be mixed, but none of the lots will be just accumulations of damaged or faulty stamps (unless specifically listed as such).


Items in stockpage or larger lots may be removed and repackaged into glassines to save on shipping costs.

A Note about Poster Stamps and Gum: Because many poster stamp collectors are primarily interested in the image on the stamp, the absence or presence of gum on the back is of little concern. If no mention of gum is made, then there may or may not be gum present. If you are only interested in poster stamps with original gum, please inquire before bidding. Actual condition issues (that are not apparent from the scan) WILL be described.

*A Note about "Stock Images": Occasionally I will have more than one example of an item in inventory. Rather than scan each one individually, I may use the same image for multiple examples of the item. If that is the case, the item supplied will be in substantially the same, or better, condition than the image. Any such items will have the words: "STOCK IMAGE" at the end of the description.
