This lacquer document box comes from 17th century Japan, and features composition and design similar to Rinpa school Japanese art. This box shows a pewter inlay bird and figure, as well as planks on a bridge. Cartouche design panels with overlay red lacquered cloth on the body of the box can also be seen. This box is unsigned and has overall wear and age patina.
