This is a semi-biographical work on the life of Napoleon Bonaparte, with events dramatised and imagined by the author. 

Contents are grouped under 'Youth'', 'Manhood', 'The Polish Love', 'Marie-Louise and the King f Rome', and 'Exile and Death'.

Octave Aubry (1881-1946) was a French novelist and historian. He was one of the five members of the Academie francaise elected to replace the vacancies left by the Nazi occupation of Europe. He wrote various historical novels such as 'The Coup d'etat of Brumaire', 'The Lost King', and 'Marie Welska'.

Translated from the French by Elisabeth Abbott, who also translated Marc Chagall's 'My Life' autobiography as well as an autobiography of Rene Magritte.

CONDITION

In the publisher's original cloth binding, in the original unclipped dust wrapper. Externally, very smart. Minimal edge wear to the extremities with a bit of bumping to the head and tail of spine. Front hinge is starting but remains firm. Dust wrapper is very smart, with a bit of edge wear to the the edges of wraps and to the spine region, as well as a few closed tears. Age-toning to margins of reverse and fly leaves, with damp stain to the reverse of the wraps. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright and clean throughout.
