“Two major influences in his artwork are growing up in rural Iowa on a farm and his love of Norman Rockwell. Rockwell’s influence can be seen in many of his pieces, like Haying Days and Autumn Memories. Chuck pays a lot of attention to the “mood” of his paintings. You can smell the hay, feel the crisp fall air, hear the deep chug-chug of the tractor engines. You can hear the light hearted banter between the ‘mechanics’ and kids in Old Time Service. The sunlight of his Iowa childhood plays in all his artwork. It works so well because he is at home in his artwork.”
