Wolverine has been injured before, but never like this. Blasted with 5,000 rounds of machine gun shells and lifted to the edge of earth's atmosphere by Hydra's giant robot, Wolverine was 85,000 feet in the air when he finally disabled the killing machine. Now, after a horrendous descent and fiery crash into a rural Nebraska cornfield, he lies at the edge of death, lapsing in and out of a coma as his body desperately tries to heal. He's taken in by Leelee and Horace Buchman to their farm where the locals suspect aliens. When confronted by sheriff Sweeney, Logan attempts to calm fears by telling the mob that he's an air force pilot, but a Hydra agent in the crowd opens fire causing chaos. Leelee's dad Horace is killed, and the tumorous growth that is what's left of Leelee's mother in the cellar goes crazy. Logan battles the Hydra agents and the creature that had been Leelee's mother escapes. Logan takes Leelee with him when he leaves the farm.
