The original of this bronze bull's head was a carved stone rhyton with inlaid shell, jasper and crystal and was found in Knossos in Crete, dating to 1550-1500 BC. The bull played a prominent role in Minoan culture, with bull images appearing constantly on frescoes and on pottery. The Minoan Civilization thrived in the Bronze age within the Aegean. The center of this civilization was Crete while the Palace of Knossos is today a visitable excavation area with remarkable original restored exhibits from the ancient Palace. The original piece is in the museum in Heraklion Crete. All our bronze items, are cast in Greece, using the traditional 'lost wax' method. As nothing is mass-produced, there will inevitably be slight variations in patination and colouring. Each piece is, therefore, unique.(34-553-A)
