A Little About Me:

Jacques Yves Cousteau once said that once the sea casts its spell on you, it  holds you in its "net of wonder forever." I have been in that net since I was quite young.
While other kids were playing in the sand, I remember sitting on the beach with my sketchbook and drawing the water in front of me, envisioning treacherous storms at sea and prowling sharks below the surface. Today, I live in Florida and I continue to pursue my passion of art. The reoccurring themes in my work include: sharks and sea-life and anything I find unusual and interesting.

I've always suffered from a chronic case of wanderlust. For much of the 90’s, I lived out of the back of my truck, traveling the country. As a struggling author and artist I didn't have money to buy souvenirs, so I often collected things that were free as mementos - including rocks, plants, and water from rivers and lakes. It was at that time I began using the water from the locations I visited in my artwork - that way the inspiration for the painting could become an integral part of it.
For example, for my "Jaws" and shark paintings, I use ocean water collected from the coast of Martha's Vineyard, where the 1975 film was shot. And in 2012, I was invited to show my Jaws paintings at JAWSfest, a celebration of the quintessential summer blockbuster held on MV.

On the weekends when I'm not painting I'm often at the ocean's edge, walking the beach or in among the waves. When the surfs calm, I'll sometimes take my art pad out on the board with me, and sketch away. I believe being in and around the water is necessary to the body and the soul.

In addition to painting, I’ve also worked in various capacities as a writer for the  past three decades, including as a news journalist, philosophy text editor, and travel writer. I’m the author of the contemporary undersea mystery thriller "A Sword for Pizarro" (Hold Fast Books, 2007), and the forthcoming sequel - "Devil Ray." Moreover, I’m currently working  on a number of new projects which run the media gamut – from graphic novel to film.
