Rare folio Greek and Latin copy of Theophylact's  well known Gospel commentary, here printed in the early 1635s in a folio version. Theophylact's commentaries on the Four Gospels and on other books of the New Testament were written in the light of John Chrysostom, and were highly influential in his day, being impactive on such well known figures as Erasmus and Thomas Aquinas.  Bound in original leather.  Main title printed in Greek and Latin, red and black with striking vignette, as shown, as well as numerous devices, borders and initials throughout. Complete. Measures:  36x23x7cm/14.2" x 9.1" x 2.8" with weight 3124g. The book has a completely detached front cover that can easily be restored.
