DESCRIPTION

In the original Latin.

The very scarce second edition of this epidemiological study from York based medical practitioner Clifton Wintringham, very scarce in all editions.

First published in 1727, this expanded second edition is based on data collected by Wintringham concerning the death rates and epidemics of York over sixteen years in the early eighteenth century.

Such epidemiological surveys were scarce at the time, with Wintringham considered to be a pioneer in this branch of medical publication, with statistics discussing epidemics of typhys, measles and military fever.

With the inscription 'Ex dono Gul. Fordyce Eq' to the title page, possibly referring to noted Scottish physician William Fordyce (1724-1792).

The publisher's records show that only five-hundred copies of this edition were printed.

ESTC reference no. T151042

A very scarce work of early eighteenth century epidemiology, with discussions also of the impact of air quality on disease.
