Music Print, Sheet from 18thC songbook "Clio and Euterpe", mounted, glazed, framed, one of pair such. With engraving by Henry Roberts. The matching print is listed as "Sung by Signora Frasi".

[Clio is the Muse of History, Euterpe, the Muse of Music.]

This offering is a page taken from a collection published in three volumes by John Welcker of London, in the mid-18th Century. "Clio and Euterpe, or, British Harmony: an admired and rare collection of the most celebrated old English and Scotch songs, cantatas, duets, and trios, selected from the operas, oratorios, etc, composed by the most eminent masters, adapted for the German flute, violin and harpsichord, embellished with designs adapted to each song." The "designs" or pictures, were engraved by Henry Roberts.

This sample is page 73, showing at the top the design adapted to its song which is entitled "A New Song, set by Mr. Baildon". [Mr. Bailden is likely the London musician Joseph Baildon, an organist and song-writer of some note in his time.] The song begins "As Chloe ply'd her Needles Art". At the bottom of the page is the melody transposed for the German flute.

The page is matted in cream card with decorative edging including gilt, and tastefully enclosed in a modern wood and gilt frame.

The matt window is 12.5cm wide, 21cm high.
