This is a bit lovely, it is an etching on silk, giving it a sheen and movement that paper cannot give. The title of the etching is Porthos (Three Musketeers) and is by Felix Oudart (who apparently was a Gold Medallist!) and is after a work by JLE Meissonier.

Felix Oudart was a French artist who seems to have been active in the 19th Century, I have found one date of birth of 1844, but I cannot be sure. (Not to be mistaken with the actor by the same name who was 1880-1956.) I am not sure of the date of this work, but thinking second half of the 19th century.

I love vintage and unusual items and much of what I sell comes from my own collections as I love to keep things for a while and pass them on for others to enjoy.
