The Limited Editions Club was founded in 1929 by George Macy with the intent of publishing beautifully illustrated and designed classic literature for a limited number of subscribers. Much of the Club’s fame stems from its use of some of the best illustrators and artists available. Each title was uniquely designed with individualized paper, cover materials, and most books are numbered and signed by the Illustrator.
Bound with brown rubbed natural lambskin leather spine, gold lettering stamped into the spine, brown rubbed natural lambskin leather over boards, with a Greek key border and gold central portrait medallion stamped into the front cover. Designed by Porter Garnett and printed under his direction on a hand-press at Pittsburg, Pennsylvania. (see photos)
