This is committed and skilled music-making. The 1977/81 digital sound is excellent, as is usual from this company.

The booklet and disc are in very good condition. The box has some residue from removed labels, but nothing too disfiguring.

This music responds particularly well to such clear and warm sonics.

Ashkenazy brings breathtaking musicianship, power, tenderness and a glittering technique to this wonderful music. This is a treat for any admirer of Beethoven’s Piano Sonatas. Nothing here is remotely routine, everything oozes thoughtfulness and clarity of vision.

Decca release from 1983.

German-made disc.
