Benifuki is a Japanese variety for black tea, but when produced as green tea, it has been reported to relieve hay fever and allergy symptoms.
The active ingredient, methylated catechin, is most abundant in the Benifuuki variety of tea and is popular among hay fever sufferers in Japan. The fact that hay fever can be prevented with tea, rather than medicine, is one of its attractions. Benifuuki tea has a strong bitterness, but this Benifuuki tea is characterized by its low bitterness and tastes just as good as regular sencha.

Methylated catechins are absorbed into the body seven times more than regular epigallocatechin gallate, and are said to remain in the bloodstream three times longer.
