eBay safety tips for avoiding scams
⚠️ On a seller's feedback profile in "classic view", click "Received as seller". This is the feedback that is useful for determining trustworthiness if you are considering purchasing an item. Be careful if there is no recent feedback in that section. "Received as buyer" can be easily artificially inflated with small purchases and keep in mind that a seller can not leave a buyer negative feedback at all so if a person has positive "Received as buyer" feedback, all we know is that they have made some purchases.

There are many great sellers on eBay, but also some bad sellers and some red flags to watch out for.
  • If a price is too good to be true, from a seller with no recent "Received as seller" feedback, it could be a scam. They may never ship your item, or send you something that is not what you ordered, or send it a different address in your zip code. Then you may have to go through a time consuming dispute process fighting against a scammer who has tracking "proof" an item was delivered.
  • Extended shipping & handling times. Check the estimated delivery date to make sure it is reasonable. Some sellers may dropship from a 3rd party, meaning they don't carry their own inventory and have no control over shipping the item, or the item might not even be in stock. Worst case you may end up waiting for the seller to ship but they never do, meanwhile your money is already paid and if the seller does not cancel the order and refund, then you have to wait until the estimated delivery passes to file an item not received case.
