Sojourner Truth, 1797-1883, a former slave, was a dedicated advocate for abolition, civil and women’s rights, her entire life. Her tireless push for the national recognition of the human dignity of all citizens of our nation, and her herculean efforts to achieve that goal are inspiring.

a quote from the lauded public speaker and preacher to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Nineteenth Amendment, officially adopted on August 26, 1920, following its ratification by the state of Tennessee on August 18, 1920, these words from Sojourner Truth package the humanity, hope, and aspirations within all of us.

made with a pair of wood print blocks originally made by JoAnnah Mahan for a special Emmylou Harris print in 1985, that are perfectly suited to represent the yellow roses Suffragists carried when they marched to rally support for the amendment that would grant women the right to vote.
