MAHOGANY CASED LARGE SIZED EARLY SERIAL NUMBERED "556" PATENTED 1890 WESTON DIRECT READING LABORATORY STANDARD BRASS BODIED VOLT METER

This wonderful LARGE FORMAT WESTON VOLT METER has patent dates from 1887 to 1890.  The meter is in the rare LARGE LABORATORY STANDARD FORMAT with the SOLID BRASS BODY and includes a built-in thermometer for critical readings in a specific temperature environment and also has a small bubble level  for precise leveling. 

THIS METER, HAVING A SERIAL NUMBER OF "556" - well under 1,000 - asserts that this meter was clearly made not long after the WESTON ELECTRIC CO. was established in Newark N.J. - making this meter very rare and possibly one of but a few remaining in the world that were produced in the first year or two of business that have survived.     

The apparatus measures a whopping 13 1/2" x 15" x 5" in size.  The mahogany carry box measures 7" TALL x 15 1/2" x 17" in size.  `

METER NEEDLE MOVES FREELY and SEEMS TO BE WORKING.  We do not have a large battery, so have not tested this meter.  The scale is upside down (for a specific lab orientation) and the needle starts at ZERO.

With exquisite thick CAST BRONZE bas relief builder's plaque.    Brass encasement with no dents or dings.
