This adapter features the industry standard bosses (sometimes known as "Campagnolo standard") compatible with all index downtube shifters. These are the bosses which were universally adopted across the entire cycling industry when index shifting became dominant in the 1980s. It is the standard found on any current production bike that is fitted with downtube shifter bosses.
This downtube shifter clamp allows the installation of index-era downtube shifters on more modern bikes with "oversize" tubing.
This clamp is made with a high-quality stainless steel hose-clamp, manufactured by a company in the USA. The band is stainless steel, the bolt is stainless, and the barrel nuts are zinc plated steel. Paddythepeddler re-manufactures the clamp, welding on brand-new Campagnolo-standard bosses in STAINLESS STEEL. Paddythepeddler performs the welding himself in his own workshop, using a precise laser-welding method which does not weaken or mar the original band. The new bosses are welded square and true, for perfect alignment and a clean appearance on the downtube of your road bike.
So this downtube clamp is compatible with almost all index downtube shifters ever made, as well as a considerable variety of vintage friction shifters!
ALSO compatible with all shift-cable barrel adjusters for Shimano STI, Campagnolo Ergo, and SRAM road bike shifters.

Many Campangolo downtube shifters from before the late 1970s
IMPORTANT NOTE REGARDING COMPATIBILITY OF SHIMANO DOWNTUBE SHIFTERS WITH "CURVED BASE" BOSS COVERS. (SEE LAST TWO PHOTOS). If your downtube shifters are the Shimano type with curved boss covers, the boss covers will require slight modification to fit this downtube clamp. What you need to do is file or grind about 3mm off the bottom edge of each boss cover, in other words take it down to just under 6mm thickness as shown in photo. To make sure you grind the bottom of each cover, it is advisable that you work on one side of the bike at a time and take notice of the 5mm-wide dog-tooth tab visible on the outboard face of the boss cover. In order to identify the bottom edge, it is essential to orient the dog-tooth pointing up the downtube. Then and only then, grind 3mm off the bottom edge of the cover. To repeat, it is best to work on one side of the bike at a time, so that you do not get confused. When you are done, you will have a unique left, and a unique right. If you grind the two covers to be identical to each other, then you have done it wrong.
The grinding is very easy to do if you are mechanically competent, using a rough hand file or small size cutting wheel. The boss covers are sometimes chromed brass, sometimes plastic, and sometimes soft steel, all easy to take down. If you have any doubt, consult a bike mechanic or send an email to Paddythepeddler.
IMPORTANT NOTE REGARDING OVAL AND TRIANGULAR PROFILE DOWNTUBES. This clamp will only work with round tubes, and with completely symmetrical oval tubing. Completely symmetrical means symmetrical on both the X and Y axis. Will NOT work with triangular tubing.
