Culture Notes: Fill seed trays or pots with a well-draining seed-starting mix. Sow the seeds on top of the mix and cover them with a thin layer of soil but do not bury the seeds as they need light for germination! Water the seeds gently and place the covered trays or pots in a warm, bright location ideally under artificial lighting to prevent overheating of soil mix. Keep the soil moist, but not waterlogged, and wait for the seeds to germinate, which can take anywhere from 7 to 21 days. Once the seedlings have emerged, provide them with bright, indirect light, and keep the temperature between 70-75°F. As the seedlings grow, you can transplant them into larger containers or into the garden. Outdoor Growing Details: Choose a location with full sun exposure and well-draining soil. Dig a hole that is twice the size of the root ball and add compost or organic matter to the soil. Place the Jacaranda tree in the hole, making sure the top of the root ball is level with the surrounding soil. Fill the hole with soil, tamping it down gently, and water the tree thoroughly. Jacaranda trees prefer a soil pH between 6.0 and 7.0 and should be watered regularly, especially during the first few growing seasons. Fertilize the tree with a balanced fertilizer in the spring and again in the summer. Prune the tree in the winter or early spring to remove any dead or damaged wood and to maintain its shape. Jacaranda trees are relatively low maintenance, but may require occasional pest control treatments. Jacaranda mimosifolia is a relatively fast-growing tree and can reach up to 50 feet in height. It is well-suited for warm climates, such as those found in USDA hardiness zones 9 to 11. The tree is not frost-tolerant and can be sensitive to cold temperatures. With proper care, Jacaranda mimosifolia will provide beautiful blooms for many years to come.
