The 3 gallon water bag was introduced during WWII and it remained in service into the 1990's. It had been originally developed for air dropping and fitted into the airborne container. It was adopted for jungle formations to cover the production lag of the American type 2 1/2 gallon bag. It differed only from the airborne item only in proofing and dyeing. Designed not to be waterproof but to bleed slowly to keep the contents cooler.
It measures approx. 36 cm across the widest point and 13 cm depth.

As many of my items are second hand and have been stored for years, I do recommend you clean/Launder them before use as some can smell a little musty.
