Charles Nungesser Autographed Portrait Photo - Paris, France, Dated March 15th, 1921

This photograph was found tucked neatly in the front of a period photo album, not sure if the original owner had any personal relationship to Nungesser.

French fighter ace Charles Nungesser, ranking as France's 3rd highest scoring ace ever with 43 aerial victories, posing for a photograph in military regalia, and signed on his 29th birthday, March 15th, 1921. He would later attempt to be the first to cross the Atlantic by plane, competing with the likes of Charles Lindbergh, and in May 1927 disappeared somewhere over the ocean with war-time friend and pilot Francois Coli. The exact circumstances of their demise is unknown and their plane has never been located. He suffered from numerous injuries during the war, during one particularly bad crash he acquired the rugged scar seen in the image, running from the middle of his lower lip to the left side of his chin.

In very good condition with minor wear, including some age-appropriate silvering to the darker areas of the image. Please see photographs for details.
