Detailed Description

A commemorative stamp bursting with color, the neon lights in this stampimage are reminiscent of a fireworks display on a hot summer evening. The Neon Celebrate! (Forever®) commemorative stamp is available as a Strip of 4 stamps, a Block of 10 stamps, or a Sheet of 20 stamps.

OnMarch 25, 2011 in Cleveland, Ohio, the Postal Service™ issued a "NeonCelebrate!" special stamp (Forever® priced at 44-cents), in one designin a pressure-sensitive adhesive (PSA) sheet of 20 stamps. The stamp wasdesigned by Phil Jordan of Falls Church, Virginia.

Inspired by avisit to the Museum of Neon Art in Los Angeles, Art Director PhilJordan began to think about the possibility of using neon to depict astamp subject. He decided that a Neon Celebrate! stamp, with its imageryof vivid colors, fit the bill. Working with neon artist MichaelFlechtner of Van Nuys, California, they developed an exciting andvibrant stamp reminiscent of a fireworks display on a summer evening.Brilliantly colored images of swirls, circles and dashes in pink, blue, orange, yellow and green seem to erupt from the ground to illuminate thedarkness. Each letter of the word Celebrate and the exclamation pointthat is part of this stamp's official title, are highlighted in brightwhite light. The 2011 "Neon Celebrate!" stamp is the first U.S. PostalService® project for Flechtner.
