This is one of the great early studies of the history of brewing in America, published in 1891. It was issued by the New York City brewer, George Ehret, on the 25th Anniversary of his "Hell Gate Brewery" -- the nation's largest brewery for much of the late 19th century. The book chronicles brewing in early America, starting in 1635 and following the industry up to 1866, when Ehret founded his brewery on New York's upper east side. The book gives a detailed look at the history of the Hell Gate Brewery and Ehret's rise to prominence in the brewing industry. About 120 pictures and vignettes help tell the story. This book is one of the greats among the small handful of U.S. brewing history books published in the 1800s. And very scarce!
