A very fine CD indeed!

This is committed and skilled music-making. The 1953 analogue sound is very good indeed, for its 1953 vintage.

The box and insert are in good used condition. The disc itself is excellent.

This is as good as it gets in this particular work. This recording is famous for the quality of the solo singing and the conducting.

This is a deeply passionate reading. The solo singing is superb, as are choir and the orchestra. Cellini presides over a moving and vigorous performance. Milanov was at her best here, and Bjorling has never been bettered as Turiddu. Their singing carries great weight and technical prowess, which is what the composer hoped to be the case. Merrill is, as always, superb.

Nothing is routine or unconsidered.

RCA mono analogue recording, digitally remastered.
