Joint issue of postage stamps is a simultaneous issue by postal departments in two or more states of postage stamps and other philatelic products on the same subject. Often the pattern on the stamps of different countries is identical. In recent years, this tradition has been developing more and more. Such issues serve to strengthen interstate relations, as well as increase interest in domestic brands. In 2010, the joint issue of the Russian Federation and the Republic of Serbia is dedicated to the art of icon painting.
The postage stamps depict the famous icons of the two states: "Archangel Michael" by Andrei Rublev (from the collection of the State Tretyakov Gallery) and "Virgin Hodegetria" (from the collection of the National Museum in Belgrade).
