Description: A monumental world map on Mercator projection showing the known world, from the Arctic Icecap to the just discovered Terres Australes (Antarctica) engraved by F. Delamare based upon nautical charts and the most recent marine documents available. Published by B. Renault in Paris, 1862.
In addition to the standard cartographic elements, the map has interesting cultural notes describing peoples and places depicted. Embellished by little illustrative vignettes and at bottom by two large insets with a comparative chart of the heights of the Mountains and polar scene with white bears.

Size: 112 x 76 cm (31 x 44 in). (128 x 89 cm the full sheet) 

Condition: Original hard folds as issued. Minor creases and traces of ages and use. Little holes where the folds cross restored.
