VINTAGE Jean Paul Gaultier  "Le Male" After Shave Lotion 125ml  cica 1995

New and still sealed this is a Genuine JPG Le Male from 1995 containing the Original Batch made with the very first formula

This item was purchased by myself from a reputable department store not long after or certainly within two years of its first release in 1995
It contains the original B.P.I. formula (known as the Vintage Formula by collectors) which is more refined, stronger and lasts much longer (up to 36 hours) than the later PUIG formulation
It has been stored in a cupboard and not moved ever since. The tin and cellophane wrapper are in perfect condition the weight feels correct and the liquid contents can be heard with a gentle shake but obviously they cannot be inspected without first breaking the seal. That said as the original purchaser I can assure you that this item has been handled and stored carefully by myself.

Important Information about Authenticity

The formula for the "Le Male" range has been altered over the years on top of the fact that this fragrance has also been counterfeited many times
For this reason experienced collectors seeking the highly prized 'Vintage Juice' formula have for years been trying to produce a list identifying the year of production based on the batch number as this info is not freely available online or from the manufacturer
There are a couple of good fragrance websites that have free online tools to check batch codes but unfortunately these cannot identify codes from before 2002. There are forums on the same sites which collectors use which do contain a wealth of information relating to this topic also I read one post where the manufacturer helped to authenticate a bottle based on emailed photos of the bottle and label although this was quite a lengthy process

It is clear that the first letter of the batch code does (loosely) refer to the year of production but much confusion has been caused by the fact that at least ten letters have been used twice

The code on this item is KWA48 X and in this instance the first letter 'K' has been used in both 1995 and in 2003 the consensus being that in the first year of production the first letter or identifier was changed on a monthly basis and at least ten different letters were used before (possibly due to the success of the product) changing to a longer term system where the first letter was changed annually.

Also all other identifiers are correct including -

The design of the label and tin

 Barcode and reference number

And most importantly the earliest Paris address of B.P.I. 75008

I have pasted below some of the more relevant threads from the collectors forums for you to read. Many thanks to the authors (if any of you are unhappy about this please contact me and I will remove your posts immediately)

Re: Le Male Batch number

Ok, I think I figured something out that may help everyone here on batch codes. I have several different bottles of Le Male JPG. Batch # QG207X is 4/2008 version, checkcosmetic.com. It's the musical box gift set. So, the years go like this: Q-08, R-09, S-10, T-11, U-12, V-13, W-14, X-15, Y-16. These will all say BPI, 75116 Paris--France on bottom of these bottles, mine do. In fact, the V--2013, say Jean Paul Gaultier Parfums on bottom of bottle as well. When BPI sold to Puig in 2015-2016, most of the juice on the market was still the old BPI versions, so it took some time to clear out the old stocks both in warehouse and on store shelves; sneaky bastard's. Anyway, the old juice is what you want, the BPI version. The new versions, Puig is phewy; it's been cut back, diluted, like all the other fragrances that Puig(phewy) acquired. Why? Cost cutting, penny pinching, greedy avarice filled A-holes who sit on the board of Puig(phewy) and hold finance degrees with no real world experience in scent creation or anything else for that matter!

Topic: very old vintage Jean Paul Gaultier "Le Male" batch code discussion

Hello,

on the web site checkcosmetic.net , any batch code prior to the letter J is not supported. For example, JTJ20 gives may 2002, but ITJ20 gives an error. But here is what's interesting: Someone told that the production started in 1995 with the letter A. That doesn't make sens. If A is 1995, then:

A 1995

B 1996

C 1997

D 1998

E 1999

F 2000

G 2001

H 2002

I 2003

J 2004

But we know that J is for the year 2002 according to checkcosmetic.net.

So... I was thinking, maybe the production began in 1993 with pre-release versions of Le Male with the letter A. Then it would make sens. Like that:

A 1993

B 1994

...

J 2002

Any thoughts?

Re: very old vintage Jean Paul Gaultier "Le Male" batch code discussion

If J is 2002, K must be 2003, because this listing is claiming a 2004 bottle with the batch of LUU64.

It's possible that the first release in 1995 didn't start with a J. Maybe it started with C?

It would seem:

C. 1995

D. 1996

E. 1997

F. 1998

G. 1999

H. 2000

I. 2001

J. 2002

K. 2003

L. 2004

I then looked at some batch codes on Ebay and included those batches in parenthesis. Based on those and what cosmeticcheck indicates, here's how 2003-2010 appear to be:

k - (KLCX, KLC35X) 2003

l. (LUU64) 2004

m. (MJT20, MJV22x) 2005

n. ( NCA05) 2006

o. 2007 ( Looks like there was a Summer Edition 2007??)

p 2008 (there's a Le Male 2008 Summer Edition)

q ???? (Was Q used at all?)

r (rvw06, ry625) = 2009

s (ssb35) = 2010

... which must mean that:

t. 2011

u. 2012

v. 2013

w. 2014

x . (XGP87X) 2015

y . 2016

z. 2017

Since it's only January, I guess it's anyones guess as to what they may start using in 2018.

Maybe someone with a confirmed 1995 or 1996 bottle can chime in, in regard to what a good batch code is.

Re: very old vintage Jean Paul Gaultier "Le Male" batch code discussion

Back to the previous OPW01. The seller told me that he has it in its closet for at least 20 years. So here is my theorie:

in 1995, the first letter of the batch code changed every month. It seems possible at that time that Jean Paul Gaultier had no idea if the fragrance would become a timeless success. Maybe that's a reason. Then, the batch code transformed starting with A, I don't know which year exactly, maybe 1996 or 1997, and from that point, the first digit seems to follow more or less the alphabetic order every year.

M, O, R and T were found on very old vintage stickers. That is a fact. I would not be surprised that 1995 stickers also have N, P, Q, S...

Bottom line: those M N O P Q R S T on stickers are probably the oldest bottles of JPG Le Male.

Re: very old vintage Jean Paul Gaultier "Le Male" batch code discussion

Also what seems important is:

75008 Paris for oldest bottles (maybe 1993-1995)

and then

75116 Paris (1996-?)

Was JPG relocated in the middle of the 90's ??

Re: very old vintage Jean Paul Gaultier "Le Male" batch code discussion

Can some experts chime in on this one? Im quite knowledgeable when it comes to JPG Le Male, vintage vs non vintage etc.

Im stumped on this one I picked up, a full bottle tester. The seller had all authentic perfumes and colognes.

It is a K batch, KSK56. However, the markings don't like up with my J batch (which is a sticker) and my M which is engraved. Both of those are vintage but this has a different font completely, it should be either of those, but instead its just completely something else.

The smell is quite spicy, much like the first major reform in 2009. I know this smell. It doesn't seem fake to me. Any help would be appreciated! Did BPI reuse K serial numbers? The dating doesnt' seem to line up.

Ive attached some photos

As you can see. The color of the juice is accurate. Bottle is a bit more faint than my others but Ive seen variation in bottles before. Also, height and shape seems good, spray has grey dot. Also, no website! Im confused!

Re: very old vintage Jean Paul Gaultier "Le Male" batch code discussion

Hello, maybe a bit late, but I just saw this post and I have a bottle (still left some Frag into) of COA73 X

Its long time ago I bought this one, but in the shop (Ici Paris) it was just released and new.

Hi,

do you have a picture of the bottle and batch code information? If it was a freshly new released Le Male then the address should be 75008 paris instead of 75116. What we would like to know is when exactly JPG relocated.
