Coin Highlights:

The African Wildlife Series was actually first released in 1999 under the authorization of the nation of Zambia. It wasn’t until 2004 that the coin series was switched from Zambia to Somalia, and they have been minted as Somalia coins each year since. The coins from this series are among the most collectible foreign bullion coins available today due to their low mintage numbers.

Celebrating one of the continent’s most beloved land animals, the coins feature a new reverse design each year that commemorates the African Bush Elephant. Depending on the year, the coins will either feature a lone elephant or a group of elephants roaming the African Savanna. This scene will always be surrounded by the inscriptions “African Wildlife,” “Elephant” and “1 oz Ag 999.”

The obverse of the coin shows the Somalia Coat of Arms at its center which features two leopards holding a shield. This image is surrounded by the inscriptions “Somali Republic” and “100 Shillings.” The minting year is also shown split up between the coat of arms, with the first two numbers on the left and the second two to the right
