DESCRIPTION

Two very scarce 1756 volumes bound in one, with 'Rider's British Merlin' bound after the first seven leaves of 'The Court and City Register'.

Following the forty-eight leaves of the Merlin, the Register resumes, with sections devoted to the lists of both Houses of Parliament, a court register, and lists of the army and navy.

'Rider's British Merlin' was one of the earliest almanacs to be published, and ran from 1656 until 1830. Printed in red and black, the longest section of the work related to the annual fairs in England and Wales, which played an important role in buying and selling, as well as in relation to developments in husbandry, information exchange and in the hiring of labour.

With two pages of advertisements to the rear.

A very scarce historical reference work for the year 1856.


CONDITION

In a full calf binding. Minor losses to spine head and tail. Head of rear joint, and head and tail of front joint starting, with boards holding firm. Minor losses to board perimeters. Internally, firmly bound. Pages lightly age toned, but generally clean and bright.
