Artist Edward Hartmann was born in Philadelphia in 1925. During the Great Depression he received a scholarship from Philadelphia Museum School of Arts but was drafted into the Navy a year after his studies began. In 1947, he graduated from Harvard with a Bachelor’s Degree in War Service Science.

As soon as his first service with the Navy was complete, he went right back to the Philadelphia Museum School of Arts to finish his diploma in Illustration.

In 1951, Edward was assigned a ship group to be sent to the Korean Conflict. There, he served as the Lieutenant and Ships Navigator. After returning home, Ed began working as an Art Director and Graphic Designer, creating brochure layouts, graphics, and company logos for more than thirty years.

Edward Hartmann has been painting non-stop throughout his life and has amassed a collection of thousands of drawings and paintings.
