Gatcombe Antiques

An aesthetically pleasing late Victorian dome top, burr walnut veneered writing slope, with brass screw topped inkwell, original lock with an old key adapted to work.

The top has a central mother of pearl, shield shaped cartouche, with matching escutcheon to the front. The top opens revealing the writing slope, fitted with a new antiqued tan leather skiver with gold tooling. At the top end, it has a central pen tray with removable pen tilt, a nib tray to the left, and the inkwell in the right hand corner. The upper and lower writing slope flaps lift up in order to gain access to storage areas beneath. The base has been fitted with a new green baize lining.

Cleaned, re-waxed and polished. It has had some minor restoration to the veneer and there are a few minor age-related shrinkage cracks to the veneer, which is usually the case, especially with walnut. All have been wax filled. In overall excellent restored condition.

Measurements: 30 cm wide, 22.5 cm deep, and 15.5 cm high.

Aftercare:

Cleaned and restored (where necessary) to a high presentable standard. Occasionally wipe over

with a soft cloth. From time to time, use a spray furniture polish containing bees wax, to maintain

its satin sheen. Please don't use a silicone spray as this could have a detrimental effect on the

waxed surface.
