A scarce set of 64, 1920s glass stereoscopic slides of Lourdes plus a celluloid set of 12 of Rome including the Vatican. Amazing multi-dimensional images of pilgrimage and devotion brought to life in 3D, a life-like, dare one say - a supernatural way, not realised in 2D and unrealizable other than when the images are viewed in 3D. Recreating not only the objects and people as they appeared in 1920 but also the physical space in which they appeared. One could say - in a way they would have been viewed by God. Adding and integrating simultaneously both  historical and spatial context synergistically, especially with the diverse range of slides designed by their makers to reflect the total spatial and immersive experience of Lourdes. Indeed such religious experience would have been a prime motivator for those creating 3D images as there would be millions who could not get to Lourdes in the flesh. If one contemplates that for every individual seen in this environment there were and are millions who could not get there - then it's 3 dimensional rendition is all the more impactful. Moving, even to those not of a religious mind-set.. Recreating moments that fill one's senses in a way that it is not otherwise possible to imagine. And creating anew, a charged comtemplative dimension beyond normal experience. In addition, it is much more difficult to forget images viewed in 3D - so when viewed - they provide a kind of temporal spiritual framework from which modern day experience evolves.
Included also is a UNIS France viewer in good condition. One feels that the slides were designed to be seen with this particular viewer, I'm sure purchased together when new. I think there are 61 slides although I might have missed a few as they are wrapped in tissue. and one is broken. The highest number on the box is 64 so perhaps one or two missing. Quite good condition. I think one box lid is missing or possibly 2.
