Welcome to Pioneer Fossils!

A Certificate of Authenticity which has a photo on it of the exact item you purchased, will accompany this specimen.

Here is a pair of fossil fish from the world-famous fossil beds of Fossil Lake, Green River Formation, Wyoming. From the Eocene, 52 million years ago.

From the gastropod layer of Fossil Lake, this plate features two Mioplosus. Both specimens feature good ray fins, caudal fins and vertebrae with natural golden-brown pigment. Each also has a few sharp teeth that are visible with a loupe or magnifying glass. See attached photos.

The back of the plate also has a partial fossil fish as well as a very nice gastropod (fossilized snail / mollusk) impression and a smaller gastropod.

The fossil fish measure 5.4" and 5.5" and the plate is about 10.1" x 9.4" and weighs 5 lbs. 6.95 oz.

We invite you to visit our store, which can be accessed on the right side of the top page. Once inside our store, you will see about a thousand items for sale, and we hope you will love them.  We sell items ranging from budget to superb.  If you like what we have to offer, PLEASE "follow us" as sellers.

You will receive the exact item described and photographed, unless clearly stated otherwise.

COMBINED SHIPPING:  We make every effort to combine shipping costs and we refund any overpayment back to you, on the same day we ship the item.  We have given hundreds of partial refunds for combined shipping savings.  We will do our best to combine purchases to save shipping costs. In some cases, that is easy, in some cases, not as much.  Our items are of vastly different sizes and weights, but we never use shipping as a profit center.  We would rather refund the shipping overpayment back to you, and have a happy buyer.

We are happy to enclose a COA (Certificate of Authenticity).  Some words of caution about COA's: Do not let them become a substitute for learning about the specimens. We have been working with fossils and minerals for many years, and we have seen hundreds of very nice-looking COA's, some that are wrong, mis-describing a specimen. In addition, the person selling the item is often the one who writes the COA (potential conflict of interest). Finally, a COA, without a photo of the exact item on the COA itself, is worthless, as it can later be placed next to any other fossil or mineral.  We suggest that in addition to relying on a COA, that people read and study the subject.
