Antimicrobial soft silicone dressing
Product description
Mepilex Ag consists of a contact layer of soft silicone Safetac, an absorbent layer of polyurethane foam containing silver and activated carbon, and an air-permeable but not liquid-permeable outer film. The dressing absorbs exudate and maintains a moist wound healing environment. Can be used together with gels and compression therapy. Contains silver sulfate, which creates an antimicrobial effect lasting up to 7 days against a wide range of pathogens present in the wound (bacteria and fungi). By reducing the amount of microorganisms, Mepilex Ag can reduce the bad odor of the wound.
Areas of use
Mepilex Ag is intended for the care of low and moderate exuding wounds: leg and foot ulcers, bedsores, superficial burns. Because the dressing maintains a moist wound environment, an initial increase in wound size may be observed when the dressing is applied. This is normal and should be expected.
Precautions
• Mepilex Ag can only be used under the supervision of a medical specialist
• Cannot be administered to patients with known sensitivity to silver
• Do not use the dressing if you are having radiation therapy or related tests, such as X-rays, ultrasound, diathermy tests, or magnetic resonance imaging
• Mepilex Ag cannot be used together with oxidizing agents such as hypochlorite solution, hydrogen peroxide solution
• For external use only
• Mepilex Ag can cause changes in the pigmentation of the wound and surrounding skin
• In case of infection, Mepilex Ag cannot replace the need for systemic therapy or other infectious treatment
• Sterility is guaranteed as long as the inner packaging of the bandage is intact. Do not repeat sterilization
Storage conditions
• Mepilex Ag should be stored in a dry environment below 25°C (77°F) away from direct sunlight
• The used dressing must be disposed of in accordance with the usual requirements of local practice.
Amount of silver in the bandage:
Mepilex Ag contains 1.2 mg/cm2 of silver.
