OPTEX 10x,30 Binocular w/Shades! Cleaned, Lubed & Enhanced.

One of the most unique binos it has been my pleasure to own and work on! When they first arrived I was amazed at how deep set the objective lenses were placed and wondered just how they managed to get them screwed in. Then we loosened one barrel and found out the bell was a removable sun blocking shade! With both of them screwed off, the bino becomes a typical, really well built, small 10x,30. A rather odd size as most I've come across are 10x,35.

When cleaning the BK-7 prisms we also blackened both frosted sides of each one. As well as the silver colored, cadmium plated prism securing bars that arch over the flat apex of each pyramid shaped lens. Such should help control stray light and slightly brighten views. And the views are beautiful with natural colors and now clear and really sharp.

Formerly stiff focus controls were degreased and lubed using NYE synthetic damping grease for a lifetime or two of worry free service. They've already served two lifetimes and have many more left in them if given some common sense TLC. They were used, but NOT abused by the previous own(ers). All lenses are near pristine with few, if any, cleaning marks!

The vinyl pebble grained covering of the chassis was cleaned and conditioned using a rubber and vinyl automotive grade product by McGuire. If done once a year or so the covering should last as long as the optic.

No case available since the original that came with the bino was completely trashed and unsalvageable. It did come with what we guess is the original ocular lens caps, one with a crack, but perfectly usable.

The screw off plastic eye cups are age welded and wouldn't loosen. So we left them As Is since they are extremely shallow and act more to hide the seam between the lens cell and eye piece outer casing. Further work may have led to them being damaged and replacements are hard to find for such old optics.
