Are you looking to add a turbo to your project build? Perhaps the lure of cheap horsepower can no longer be ignored? Or maybe you’re just looking for a low cost performance upgrade that will give you the performance you’re looking for without the big budget engine build. Whatever the reason, turbocharging has become one of the most popular ways to increase an engine’s horsepower output anywhere from 50 percent or more. Often, with a few supporting components, it isn’t unheard of to make 800 hp or more at the tire with a large single turbo or smaller twin turbos. All you have to do is hit the local cruise night, cars & coffee, or dragstrip to see any number of vehicles, many of them turbo LS swapped with the turbo hanging off the front of the engine making respectable power.
There are a lot of junk and cheap turbos on the market when it comes to cost effective turbo charging, and we know you work hard for every dollar in your project car budget. This is why Speedway Motors is now offering an extremely budget friendly line of turbo offerings that leaves plenty of change in your budget for supplemental parts such as , , , and more for the rest of your turbo build project.
We all know that when it comes to performance automotive products, you often get what you pay for, especially when people start talking cheap turbos. If the deal is too good to be true it usually is. Don’t let the great price on our line of turbos give you pause, these turbos are designed to handle your street performance build and can even handle the rigors of autocross, drag racing, and other applications. We’ve been successfully campaigning a pair of our 66mm turbos mounted to a 5.3 LS in our 1986 C4 Corvette project for a while now with zero issues and a lot of smiling faces in our ride-alongs at Goodguys events. Be sure to read about our C4 Corvette project in for some turbo LS build inspiration.
This 66mm turbo features a fully machined cast iron turbine housing that uses a standard T4-style inlet flange and 3-inch V-band clamp outlet, fitted between the cast aluminum compressor housing is an oil cooled journal bearing center housing assembly. The cast aluminum compressor housing comes as a 4-inch inlet and 2.5-inch outlet. Overall size means this turbo will fit in places many larger turbos will not, providing excellent under hood packaging, even in twin turbo LS setups.
The T4 exhaust inlet flange means the turbo will easily mount with a standard , while the 3-inch turbine outlet is easily plumbed with your choice of secured by a . The compressor inlet and outlet are slip-on connections that use and . The compressor side of the turbo uses to plumb the outlet to your engine.
The 66/62 turbo size makes great power on most smaller displacement engines, such as inline fours, and inline or V6 engines or small V8s. The 66/62 can also be used quite well in a twin turbo setup on V8 engines of 300 cubic inches or larger and is the perfect start for the popular 5.3 LS turbo kit swap. Spool up is quick with the .70 A/R turbine housing and cast compressor wheel. Our twin turbo LS C4 Corvette project’s 5.3 LS with a pair of these turbos saw 1,000 crank horsepower. Expect to see 800 wheel horsepower in real world conditions using a pair of these turbos. A single turbo application will vary depending upon the engine displacement and airflow capabilities, but these can support plenty of horsepower in a single turbo build as well.
We don’t just drop a turbo in your lap and say, “good luck!” No, we have everything you’ll need to finish out your turbo build, no matter the chassis, engine combo, power level, or budget. Not to mention that our techs, available to help you with your turbo build dreams, are just a phone call away. Start with our selection of , offering everything you need to plumb your engine’s pressurized oil to the turbo’s center housing assembly and back to the engine’s oil pan. At the oil pan you’ll need to add an AN -10 fitting or you can bolt on our with built in turbo oil drain fitting if you’re doing the popular turbo LS swap.
Lastly, we have everything you need to build out your hot side and cold side systems, including for numerous applications, and LS turbo manifolds like our and for your hot side. While , , and are available to finish your cold side build. In summary, when finances are a concern, you can still make 500, 600, or even 700 hp at the tire with a quality budget turbo and supporting components when you buy your LS engine turbo kit parts from Speedway Motors.
