Myler Western Dee D Ring with Hooks MB 02 Level 1 Low Port Comfort Barrel Bit

Description

This is a well maintained pre owned Level 1 Myler Toklat stainless steel 3 inch diameter Western "D" Dee ring with hooks with a sweet iron MB 02 comfort snaffle wide barrel mouthpiece that measures 5.25 inches wide with 7/16 inch diameter bars shaped in a pronounced curve to promote comfortable swallowing and inlaid copper on the bars to encourage salivation.  The 02 mouthpiece is sweet iron and is the mildest Myler mouthpiece in terms of tongue pressure.  The Myler® Low Port Comfort Snaffle D-Ring Bit MB 02 is a Level 1 Myler bit designed for horses with basic training established.  This bit is in well maintained pre owned condition and shows light surface wear from use and mild rusting of the sweet iron mouthpiece.

The MB 02 is the Myler alternative to the traditional French link or lozenge mouthpiece commonly used in snaffle bits.  The MB 02 rotates onto the tongue, applying tongue pressure, but because the mouthpiece is curved, it wraps around the bars and lips instead of pinching.  The barrel in the center applies approximately the same pressure on the tongue as a traditional three-piece mouthpiece, however, the barrel distributes the pressure more kindly and creates Independent Side Movement™.  Sweet iron mouthpiece oxidizes and encourages salivation.

The western dee with hooks is a circular stainless steel ring with fixed attachment of the mouthpiece, with top and bottom rings (“hooks”) for headstall and rein attachment.  The top bridle ring will fit standard ⅝ inch leather found on most headstalls.  The bottom rein ring will fit reins up to approximately ¾ inch.  The hooks make this a much more versatile version of the dee without hooks.  Attaching the headstall to the top hook holds the bit in the correct position instead of allowing it to slide around the bridle cheek pieces.  Attaching the reins to the rein hooks allow the rider to lift the cheek and use the Independent Side Movement™ of the mouthpiece.  Using the hooks does not add leverage but allows the rider to transition from a direct rein action to indirect action without changing the bit.  Adding a curb strap incorporates curb pressure.  This style of hooks is no longer being produced by Toklat, so buying used may be your only option if you like this particular design.

The Myler Bitting System is a graduated system, meaning that as your horse learns and progresses through his training, you will change the way you communicate with him by re-bitting him periodically.  Each Myler Bit is designed to use select pressure points for the best communication for that level.This is a very comfortable bit for the horse due to its ergonomic curvature design.  The unique curved bars of all Myler bits are ergonically designed to accommodate the natural anatomy of the horse's mouth, wrapping the bars and lips instead of pinching as the mouthpiece rotates onto the tongue.
