A handmade kit for performing hand sewn work on all sorts of materials including hand sewing leather welts and soles. These tools have been replicated from an Indian tradition of making handmade tools. The two awls shown here are an essential part of cobblers, shoemakers or repair tools. Ideally used for making and repairing shoes. The sewing and stitching awls have a hook for threading for easy hand work. This is an easy way of stitching as you do not require bristle threads to sew welts and soles.

- Durable high tensile steel sharp needle.
- 15 cm thick curved hooked welting awl with handle
- 15 cm thin straight hooked awl with handle
- 5 & 3 meters of waxed welting or soling and stitching threads
- Small piece of wax to poke the awls in before stitching
- Fine emery paper to keep awls sharp

Tips for using Indian Style Awls:
- First make the holes using stabbing awl
- Stab the awl in the wax block
- Remove the stitching awl form the wax block
- Gently ease the awl in the hole made
- At the hook end engage the waxed thread by looping
- Once the loop is engaged then hold the loop end tight and pull the awl away from you till it comes out
- Once the loop thread is out of the pierced hole then pass the other thread through the loop
- Now pull the outer thread so that the loop begins to disappear till it makes a stitch
