Before the Tigers’ recent Atlantic Coast dominance, the greatest day in their history came at the end of the 1981 season, when, after a perfect 12-0 season, they defeated Nebraska 22-15 in the Orange Bowl, earning their first national championship in the process. The eighties would prove a successful decade for Clemson, as, despite being under probation for two seasons, the Tigers captured five conference titles, and entered the nineties on the back of four consecutive 10-2 seasons.
