Enthusiastically rendered charcoal on paper portrait of female subject, Christiane Renée. Begun and completed on June 3, 1962. The work comes professionally framed and matted with Tru-Vue conservation glass and was acquired from a smoke-free home where it has hung for a number of years. The framing technique blocks up to 99% of UV raysAnd ensures no ripple or “orange peel” effect on glass surface.

Piece is in excellent condition with minor rippling to the paper in the upper right-hand portion (see detailed photo). Frame size is 26” inches wide x 32” inches tall. Matted image opening size is 18” inches wide x 24” inches tall.

The Artist:

Charles Melohs (Charles Weissman 1908-1982) was born in Brooklyn, New York and educated at the Pratt Institute. Melohs is most commonly known for his vibrant mid-century impressionist landscapes and cityscapes, most notably of the New York City skyline. Melohs’ work can be found in the collections of MoMA, The Guggenheim, The Frick Collection, and LACMA.
