Offering a rare vintage 1930's Western Electric Model 618 Ring Suspension Microphone. It was the world’s first dynamic mic that was developed by Bell Labs in the early 1930's, and was state of the art at it's time for radio broadcasting, sound recording, and public address systems. While carbon mic dominated the earlier 1900's, this "moving coil" type mic eliminated the need for external voltage, so can be used with any common amplifier with preamp. Interestingly, even though the 618 is a dynamic mic, it uses similar internal design to that of a ribbon microphone, utilizing a thin duralumin diaphragm clamped around its outer edge with a coil of aluminum ribbon affixed.
This mic head is 100% original as found, no modifications. It shows age-related oxidation, has been tested and produces a strong clean audio profile. We have suspended it within a large modern ring similar to what was used back in those days, and mounted it to a vintage heavy Atlas 2276 desk stand...a very nice combination! A 4 foot cable is hard-wired to the mic with a vintage 3 pin male XLR plug. ** Audio sample available upon request. Always safe secure packaging and fast fair shipping. **
