History:
Maison Worth established in 1856, as
French fashion house, by Englishman, Charles Frederick Worth (1826 – 1885). He
was the first couturier to use live models, considered today as the father of
haute couture.
Charles Frederick as well as his sons
did not care about anything but high fashion.
Only the third generation (Jean Charles
and Jacques Worth) recognized the great potential of perfume business. They
founded Les Parfums Worth in 1924.
In collaboration with famous perfumer
Maurice Blanchet and genius Rene Lalique, who designed and manufactured
flacons, Les Parfums Worth launched over 20 fragrances between 1924 and 1947.
Launched:
1938. Discontinued in 1960s.
Perfumer:
Maurice Blanchet.
Flacon creator:
Rene Lalique.
Odor profile:
The only fragrance, created by Worth to scent the fur.
Dark and warm, alluring and seductive, long lasting perfume with animalic
oriental drydown and leather nuances.
Main notes to mention bergamot, honeysuckle, neroli, tuberose, orange blossom, jasmine, rose,
lilac, ylang-ylang, sandalwood, cedar, Mousse de Saxe, castoreum, ambergris,
civet, musk, vanilla, leather.
Dating clues:
World War II shuts down the main production and most
of the business of René Lalique.
His factory at Wingen-sur-Moder was blocked by Nazis from
September 1939 till May 1945.
Presumably Worth possessed some stock of the related
bottles, enabled him to spread his sales till 1940.
Volume marking just ¼ Litre (no oz) is contemporary to 1938-1940.
